Cardinal Greenway is a non-profit, volunteer led organization. It is vitally important that all users abide by the rules and regulations and assist in maintaining the facility. Cardinal Greenway Background Welcome to the first two segments of the Cardinal Greenway Trail! When completed, Cardinal Greenway will stretch 60 miles from Richmond to Marion, passing through seven municipalities and five counties in east central Indiana. The trail will also be an important link in the 6,000 plus mile American Discovery Trail, a planned, coast-to-coast network of trails connecting our country from Delaware to California! Our completed Delaware County section is 10.3 miles, from McCulloch Boulevard north of White River past the old CSX Depot near downtown Muncie, through urban and rural areas, ending at the southeast corner of the Prairie Creek Reservoir, at County Road 534 East. The Grant County section is 7.5 miles; it begins at the Miller Avenue trailhead in northwest Marion, meandering through a tunnel and over nine trestle bridges, and ending at 10th Street in Jonesboro. A pedestrian bridge over the Mississinewa River connects the trail from just below 4th Street in Jonesboro to the Gas City Park. Greenway Rules & Regulations Be Courteous To Other Trail Users: A variety of users and skill levels will be present on the trail. Maintain a safe speed at all times. Be Respectful. Be Polite. Keep To The Right And Pass On The Left: Speed differential between users can make passing dangerous. Look ahead and behind to make sure that your lane is clear before you pull out and around other users. Faster traffic must always yield to slower traffic and oncoming users. Wear A Helmet: Cyclists, in-line skaters and Delaware County Horseback riders are encouraged to wear a helmet when using the Trail. Give An Audible Warning When Passing: All users should be courteous and give a clear warning signal when approaching from behind. Give others ample time to respond. Use a bell or voice signal such as "Passing on your left!" Do Not Block The Trail: Never use more than half of the trail to prevent blocking other users. If you are in a group, move into a single file line at the far right of the trail when others approach from either direction. Obey Signage: Always stop for traffic at roadways and intersections. Remember -- cross traffic is not required to stop at many trail crossings. When entering or crossing the Trail, yield to users already using the Trail. Stay On Your Trail: Horses are permitted only on the designated equestrian trail in Delaware County. Adhere To Trail Hours: Hours of operation are established for a reason: SAFETY. The Trail is open from DAWN UNTIL DUSK, seven days a week. Use after hours is prohibited. Do Not Use The Trail Under The Influence Of Alcohol Or Drugs: The use of alcohol or drugs on Trail is absolutely prohibited. Persons who use a prescribed medication should check with their doctor to ensure that it will not impair their ability to safely operate a bicycle or other wheeled vehicle. Clean Up Your Litter: Please keep the Trail clean for other users to enjoy. Do not leave glass, paper, cans or other debris on or near the Trail. Please clean up after your pets. Take out what you bring in -- and remember to always recycle your trash. Keep Pets On A Leash: Keep pets on a short, secure and tethered leash at all times. Keep pets under your immediate control at all times. Keep pets off of private property, and clean up after them. Prohibition Of Camp Fires: Fires, for any purpose, are prohibited within the Cardinal Greenway Property. Prohibited Uses Of The Trail: Motorized vehicles, including snowmobiles and ATV's are prohibited from use on the Trail. Hunting from the Trail or from other property owned by Cardinal Greenway or the possession of unauthorized firearms is strictly prohibited and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Show Respect: Respect the privacy of the adjacent landowners and do not enter their property. Many native plants and wildflowers grow along the Trail. Please don't pick, trample, or disturb them. Graffiti or damage to Trail property costs money to repair. Those responsible for defacing or damaging Trail property will be prosecuted. Uniformed Rangers patrol the Trail to answer questions and assist you in the event of an emergency. Please report any vandalism or unsafe conditions to a Ranger or the Cardinal Greenway Office.
